I ordered a pair of these online, a bit nervous as I wasn't ever able to hear them (I heard a pair of JBL SP6C's, the cheaper version, at Best Buy, and wasn't all that impressed, although it might have been the poor listening environment).

Anyway, the speakers arrived, we installed them (they look great and inconspicuous in our living room ceiling) and I'm quite impressed.Note that we're using these for "whole-house" background music, not home theater, so my standards aren't as high as they would be in the HT case. But for a 6.5" speaker, these put out a surprising amount of bass, and clear highs.Right now we just have a cheap amplifier hooked up while we're shopping for a better one, and they still sound great. These probably would be just fine for HT rear-speaker use (I wouldn't want any in-ceiling speaker for front or center HT use).

Our home theater downstairs already has JBL speakers (studio series for the fronts and center, northridge for the rears) and I've been very happy with them.

I recommend these for those who need a great looking and decent sounding in-ceiling speaker without breaking the bank.

Product Description:
Liven up your stereo system without taking up excess space with this JBL two-way in-ceiling loudspeaker. Designed for folks who believe speakers should be heard but not seen, the powerful 100-watt speaker installs conveniently in the ceiling--where it won't bother anyone but the critters living in your attic--yet still delivers a full overall sound with plenty of bass thanks to its 6.5-inch polymer-coated aluminum cone woofer with rubber surround. The speaker is also outfitted with a unique swivel-mounted tweeter for the high frequencies. Listeners can adjust the tweeter to one of several different angles depending on where you normally sit and which angle produces the best overall sound. The drivers combine to produce a frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz with a crossover frequency of 2,000 Hz.
The unit works well as part of a matched pair of stereo speakers, as a secondary speaker for listening in an adjacent room, or as part of a home theater surround setup for watching movies or listening to five-channel audio sources. The speaker's mounting cutout measures 7.88 inches in diameter and sits 4.25 inches deep--an unobtrusive size that installs relatively easily using a Philips screwdriver, utility knife, tape measure, and carpenter's level. The white color also blends gracefully into most ceiling surfaces, though users can also paint the frame a variety of other colors if necessary. Listeners should note, however, that it's difficult to move or reposition the speaker once a cutout is made, so you should take your time when determining the ideal listening location.
The speaker terminals accommodate up to 16-gauge speaker cable(not included), which JBL recommends for distances below 20 feet. The company advises using 12-gauge wires for speakers located between 20 and 30 feet from the receiver, and 10-gauge cable for distances above 30 feet.
